Machine to machine (M2M) technology brings public transport up to speed
The South Australian Department of Planning, Transport and Infrastructure (DPTI) has used machine to machine communication to transform the capabilities of Adelaide Metro ticketing system, including the introduction of smart ticketing with the Metrocard
The new system uses Telstra machine to machine communication and Telstra’s Wireless M2M Control Centre, operating through the Telstra Next G Mobile network. Having this technology has also allowed the DPTI to introduce closer tracking of bus journeys, meaning better compliance, scheduling and arrival time information for passengers.
